Nandita Das’s first film as a director based on 2002 Gujarat riots has run into trouble just before its release. Multiplex owners in Gujarat are apprehensive about screening the film.

There are reports that multiplex owners are wary because they fear Parzania-style attacks on theatres that screen the film about the Gujarat riots.

But the Multiplex Owners’ Association of Gujarat has decided not to screen the film, citing the ongoing dispute over revenue sharing with filmmakers. “We will not screen Firaaq as the film distributors are demanding more money from us,” said President of the Association Manubhai Patel.
