The original 1984 movie, directed by John Milius, starred Swayze, his future ‘Dirty Dancing’ partner Jennifer Grey, Charlie Sheen and C Thomas Howell.

Direction isn’t rocket science: Dilip Mehta

Renowned photojournalist-turned director Dilip Mehta, whose feature debut Cooking With Stella premieres today at the 34th Toronto International film festival, says that his movie is “a metaphor for social disparity” in India.

Mehta social satire places the uniquely Indian phenomenon of household helps and their relationship with their employers in a cross-cultural context.

“It isn’t something that we should be proud of, but it is a fact that there is a Stella in every Indian household. The film uses cooking as a metaphor for social disparity.”

“She said that I was mad, and that we would fight all the time. So we decided we will not go beyond co-writing. When the film was being written, she was in Toronto and I was in Delhi.

So we stayed out of each other’s path,” he says. But he is quick to add that Deepa Mehta was around all through the shoot. “What a mentor to have.”

FIFA ban a blow for Chelsea, says Ballack

Germany – FIFA’s decision to ban Chelsea on registering new signings until 2011 was a setback for the club, Blues midfielder Michael Ballack said Friday.

“It’s a blow for us. It’s a drastic punishment,” Ballack said at a news conference in Cologne ahead of Germany’s friendly international against South Africa on Saturday.

The Germany captain said it remained to be seen whether the sanction on Chelsea, who have filed an appeal, would remain.

“It’s not a pleasant situation for the club,” he said.

Ballack, 32, has a one-year contract which keeps him at Chelsea until 2010, and could possibly benefit from the ban, but said he did not want to link his personal situation with the club’s predicament.

World governing body FIFA imposed the ban on Chelsea for inducing French teenager Gael Kakuta to break a contract with Lens.

Kakuta, who is now 18, joined Chelsea from Lens two years ago, prompting the French club to report them to FIFA.
